That's often the case, those that love it already will applaud your efforts, the others will just ignore it.

I remember when my kids were little and I was engaged in school, especially the book and reading programmes all the time, we sold some cheap books and one mother passed by and said, oh, my kids have sooooo many books. She then had a clothes party in her house and we were more or less led into all the rooms to get changed. I saw a few of the rooms but not a single book in the whole house.

Needless to say, her children were not doing very good in school. Such a shame. I also helped in the school library and we had kids come in who had never been inside one before they started school. My kids had a library card as soon as they were born. It was a magic way to finish the school week that has stayed with me my whole life.Bronahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11110584237325026052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1483877654474162845.post-63820561698468391602020-12-03T08:14:26.169+11:002020-12-03T08:14:26.169+11:00Thanks Marianne. It's not so much that I was disappointed, more like she was preaching to the already converted :-)

I'm still surprised and disappointed though by the number of parents who are horrified/affronted when I suggest that reading aloud with your child is the best way to get them to love reading. They don't have time and they don't want to make the time.Bronahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11110584237325026052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1483877654474162845.post-87000767943015495862020-12-03T01:00:52.476+11:002020-12-03T01:00:52.476+11:00Interesting article. The more you know about a subject yourself, the more you will be "disappointed".

And you are so right, the best way to get your children to read is to read to them and read yourself. I raised two avid readers, just by putting them on my lap and sharing books.

You have given some great advice. I'm sure the many children you taught have benefitted from this.Marianne https://www.blogger.com/profile/11810275740213848634noreply@blogger.com
