Hmm... it's been a while since I read Stephen King. I wonder where I could find a good list of his scariest books? ;)
(I can't believe I still haven't read The Shining or The Stand!)

    1. The Stand is my favourite King and I've read it 3-4 times so far. I also thoroughly enjoyed The Gunslinger series - it's not so much scary as dark & twisted at times.

  2. I can't do scary movies or books any more, though I did read a lot of Stephen King in my youth. I think Cujo was the last one I read. I'd also add Rosemary's Baby to the list. I've read the book but the movie was even scarier, I had to stop watching it even though I knew what was going to happen! I've also read The Exorcist but not seen the movie. I think watching it on screen is scarier.

And years ago I went to see the original Evil Dead and had to walk out of the theater. It was really embarrassing because I was on a date and it was my idea to see the movie. (He was a real sweetheart about it though.)

    1. I made myself stay and watch the end of Se7en because I figured my imagination had created a more horrible ending than would actually happen. I was only partly correct and had pre-sleep jitters for weeks afterwards!

  3. My husband was on a huge Stephen King kick at one time, and I couldn't even look at the covers.

    1. Mr Books gave me It for our first Christmas together!
      We're still together :-)

And we still both enjoy most Stephen King books together (although I've learnt to never read his earlier books after dark!).

I read 1 Stephen King 'Pet Semetary' and that was enough!
Would like to nominate some alternates for the top 10 scariest movies:
    The Exorcist (1973) - Psycho (1960)....yikes!

    1. Despite my two lists above, I do actually avoid watching and reading scary things - so I cannot say I plan to watch The Exorcist or Psycho...ever!

  5. I think I lost my first post. I've only read The Long Walk, but I did post on Stephen King's new children's book Monday.

I have NEVER read a Stephen King! I have heard too many stories of being scared after reading Stephen King. I even hesitate to buy The Shining! Yes, I am an easily scared soul, though I have practically read all of Shirley Jackson! Great list...may be may be I will read The Shining, this time around!
