Gone by Michael Grant.

Stephen King's The Stand meets William Golding's Lord of the Flies in Gone.

What would happen if everyone over 15 suddenly disappeared from your world? Could you survive on your own? Who would step up to lead? What if something bad happened? Who would fix it? Police it? Make it better again? And what if some of the people began developing weird powers? Powers that could really hurt you and cause some serious damage!

A thrilling, menacing page-turner for the older teen with a sequel 'Hunger' (& at least 2 more books after that) due out later this year.

A movie is also being made, but get the book with the original cover - it looks far better than the movie-tie edition!

  1. Hunger and Lies continue the drama and menace. They are action-packed, full of teen angst and edge of your seat thrills.

They're enjoyable in the same way Stephen King is - light, fast-paced, classic horror. If you want an 'elegant distiller of language' or nuanced character development, then this is not for you.
Read this for the sheer fun of it.

  2. My son has just read Gone and Hunger and loves them. I'm not sure that he knows a movie is coming. He'll be thrilled. He read Gone last year, but was a bit young for it and found it disturbing- this year it's just right.

    1. Thank you for rectifying my very sad commenting record for this very first blog post Louise :-)
Sadly, the Gone movie (or possible TV series) seems to have fallen to the wayside. A quick google search reveals no news since 2011.
Your son will just have to use his imagination!
Mr Books and my eldest booklet both loved the series right through to the end (Light), but I got tired of it by the 3rd one. The supernatural stuff started to annoy me...but that's what they enjoyed :-)
