10 Books I Have Read

#10books is a meme that has been going around Litsy.
How well do you know my reading habits?

1. Lord of the Flies
2. The Day of the Triffids
3. Fahrenheit 451
4. Of Mice and Men
5. Peyton Place
6. Fifty Shades of Grey
7. 1984
8. Gone Girl
9. Wuthering Heights
10. Lady Chatterley's Lover

Can you guess which book is the lie?

If you'd like to join in #10books please leave your link in the comments so that I can check out your list too.

    1. Sadly, Fanda and Cleo, I skim read 50 Shades for work.

My boss asked one of us to have a go at it, so that we could talk to customers about it and show that we weren't being book snobbish. I could at least say that the writing was terrible, character development ghastly, but the sex was hot!

One down, nine to go :-)

  3. Lady Chatterley? My first guess was 50 Shades, but that's already been confirmed as incorrect.

    1. I also read Lady C and her alternative version John Thomas and Lady Jane back in my twenties after seeing the play in a garden in Melbourne complete with all the nudity!

      Two down!

  4. Great meme! This is really quite hard... Your tastes are quite varied. Gone Girl and Of Mice and Men speak to me most (and I'm cheating with two guesses).

    1. I will allow your two guesses Louise as they are both incorrect.

I read Gone Girl for work, but I was also rather curious to see what all the fuss was about at the time.
Of Mice and Men was read after viewing the rather magnificent movie staring Gary Sinuse and John Malkovitch. This then led me to read East of Eden - my favourite Steinbeck to date.

      That's now 4 down - only 6 possibilities left!

  5. I'll guess Peyton Place... though if that IS the one, you should read it. Much more entertaining and less scandalous than I'd anticipated.

    1. My mum had Peyton Place hidden away at the back of her bookshelf - I found it when I was about 13 and devoured it :-)
I read it several times during my teen years as well as Metalious' other novel that mum had on her shelf - No Adam in Eden. It was racier than PP by far!

  6. Oh dear, my choices were Fifty Shades, Lady Chatterley or Gone Girl! Hmm... I'm going to have to go with Wuthering Heights, I think...

    1. Thanks for playing, but I have also read Wuthering Heights. Not with very much enjoyment though.

6 down; only 4 choices left....

  7. Well it's getting easier. I will confess my first three guesses were wrong. I was certain it was 50SoG, then GG, then PP. ( I did figure you had read OMaM, WH, AND LCL) So...I'm gonna go with The Day of the Triffids.

    1. Thanks for playing Joseph, but I went through a massive John Wyndham phase in my late twenties & read his entire oeuvre starting with The Day of the Triffids.

      Only three possibilities left!!

  8. Lord of the Flies?

    1. Wow! I can't believe how well (or tricky) this has been.

I read Lord of the Flies for school - hated every word, but I read it!

Only two choices left! A 50/50 chance now :-)

  10. Since I haven't read 1984, I'll guess that you haven't either!

  11. Fahrenheit 451? It's not a book I want to read...so how about you?
