To help you find the right book for your #AusReadingMonth challenge, I've listed a selection of Aussie books by genre with their State or Territory.
Which BINGO challenge will you be trying?
Flyby Night
If time is of the essence, one book from the BINGO card may be the prefect option for you.
A quick getaway is better than none!
Backpackers
With their compact swags, backpackers need to travel light.
If this is you, simply select one line (horizontal, vertical of even diagonal) on the BINGO card and read three books about our country.
Grey Nomads
If you have more time up your sleeve join the grey nomads in their self-contained campervans as you travel around this big, brown land of ours.
With every crossroad on the map, there's a choice to be made; you cannot do it all, so select two lines on the BINGO card to be eligible for Grey Nomad status.
The Whole Hog
If you're feeling a little touched by the sun, then the Whole Hog may be for you.

If you'd like to read some Indigenous literature, try this fabulous new site I just read about today (thanks Sue) called Writing Black @if:book Australia. The writing is contemporary and downloadable. Some of the writing will be set in a specific place, but many of the pieces could fit the FREEBIE box as well.
Magabala Books is an Indigenous publishing house with a great selection of titles.
The University of Queensland Press also has a great list of Black Australian Writing here.

ReplyDeleteI'm delighted that so many people will be reading The Ladies of Missalonghi at the same time. It would be a great read for the readathon next weekend too :-)
DeleteThe Ladies of Missalonghi have arrived already so I'll be doing that one!
ReplyDeleteWahoo!
DeleteI'm going for the 'whole hog'!
ReplyDeleteRead NINE books this November from all of the 8 states and territories plus one freebie
This is a bonza challenge....wacko! :)
Beaut!!
DeleteYour a true blue legend Nancy ;-)
Hi Brona, my bingo challenge might be the Flyby Night though I have already read The Dry (VIC) and The Light Between the Oceans (WA), so one more and I'll have 3. So does that mean I need a good book from ACT for a bingo on my card?! thanks. which is the best ACT book? hmm
ReplyDeleteI can highly recommend the book I just read & reviewed on the weekend - A Dangerous Language by Sulari Gentill. It's part of a series, but you could read it out of order and still enjoy it I think.
DeleteI'me beginning to think I'm the only person in Australia, & now the world, who hasn't read The Dry! I've tried the Light/Ocean a couple of times but couldn't get into, but it's one of my dear friend's favourote books - horses for course as they say!
It's not easy to find books set in Canberra though...although any Australia federal politician bio/memoir could count as well, or a bio on Walter Burley Griffin, the architect of Canberra?
Good luck
