Classics Club Spin #22

Can you believe this is our 22nd CC Spin?
And that I have participated in ALL 22.

The rules are easy: compile your list of 20 books by Sunday 22nd December.

On that day a number will be randomly selected.
That's the book you read.

You have until the 31st January 2020 to finish your book and review it.

Join in the fun by visiting the other players and commenting on their lists.
It's a great way to meet like-minded bloggers and explode your TBR classics wishlist!

I do like to read my CC Spin with another if I can, although it's getting harder to find common titles as many of us move onto our second or even third Spin Lists.
If you spot a book match or author match with your list, please let me know before the magic number is selected on Sunday, I can then tweek my list to suit.

  1. No crossovers with my list but I hope you and Margaret get Little Dorrit - mainly because I always end up with monsters and I don't see why I should be the only one, but partly because I read it a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it... ;) Good luck!

    1. I keep putting Little Dorrit on the list - maybe this is the Spin that gives it to me!

    2. I'd be very happy with a Dickens over Christmas.

  2. A great list! I'm probably most curious about the Wilkie Collins.

I was just assembling my list. No direct matchups possible but I've also got two Willa Cathers--I'll slot them in to match.

    1. When I discovered (via the classics club) a number of years ago that Wilkie Collins had a huge backlist of books besides the two that everyone knows, I went a little crazy and acquired quite a few of them. Have now read No Name and want to read more.

  3. You have some great ones there - I don't have any crossovers, but have enjoyed Little Dorrit, The Tempest and A Study in Scarlet - all many years ago. I also love Wilkie Collins and Katharine Susannah Prichard, but haven't read the ones on your list. Good luck!

    1. I'd be very happy with any of my spin books this time around.

  4. The only other book on your list I've read is The Dead Secret - I don’t think it is in quite the same league as The Moonstone or The Woman in White, but it is still a good mystery.

Maybe it'll be Little Dorrit - even though it is a long book!

    1. No Name was pretty good too, but I haven't read one of his earlier ones yet, so I did wonder if you could see the difference or the development of the writer as he went along.

  5. amazing, I do have your 2 Japanese titles on my list!! Correction, I realize I plan to read The Sound of Waves, but it's not on my official list, because I received it as a gift after I had started my list! https://wordsandpeace.com/2019/12/18/the-classics-club-the-classics-spin-22/

    1. One of the Japanese ones would be a great way to start Meredith's Japanese Lit challenge 13. But I'm happy to get any of this books this spin.

  6. I looked at your list before I wrote mine but there's no overlap anywhere! You have a very fun list, and the Dead Secret looks like something I might want to read sometime...

    1. Glad you've come back to make a list Jean - I really didn't want to be the last man standing in the cc line!

  7. I love it that you have participated in all twenty-two of the previous spins. You are the backbone of the group, perhaps of the reading world.

    1. I share that honour with Jean, who has returned to the blogging world just to keep up with the CC Spin :-)

  8. The Dead Secret is fun, though not as good as Collins' better known books. The only other two I've read are A Study in Scarlet and The Tempest. There are a lot of books on your list that I'm not familiar with at all, so I would be interested to hear more about them. Good luck!

  9. What an interesting list, I've only read Alexander's Bridge and The Tempest, both of which I enjoyed.

  10. I don't think you can go wrong with any of these (not that I've read them all). Always love Sherlock though.

  11. What a great post about all your spins so far. I am looking forward to the next ones since I had to seit this one out, I was reading two large classics already and didn't have the time to add a third. But I'll be back, promise!

    Happy New Year!
