Jeremy by Chris Faille

Jeremy is one of my favourite CBCA shortlisted books this year.

It's nominated for the Eve Pownall Information Book award - but this is non-fiction at its lightest.

Based on a true story, Jeremy is a baby kookaburra that has fallen out of his nest.

In the style of Sebastian Lives in a Hat, Jeremy is raised lovingly by humans in their home. He becomes a part of the family as we casually learn about what he eats, watch him as he grows and learns to fly.

Jeremy is beautifully & affectionately illustrated by Danny Snell. Each page is designed simply and cleanly, drawing the eye to Jeremy each time.

The end papers are lined with kookaburra facts - for instance, did you know that the kookaburra laugh is not actually laughing at us silly humans, but marking his territory instead?!

  1. How adorable: I'm judging the book by its cover, again. I'm going to look this one up in our library to see if we have it.

    1. In this case Ruth, the cover IS indicative of the book! Adorable from start to finish :-)
