Summer in Sydney

Summer holidays can be very distracting.

Even though Mr Books & have been back at work 2 weeks, the kids are still on holidays, hanging around the house, looking to be amused and occasionally refereed!

Thankfully Mr Books works from home. But it does mean that his work schedule is regularly interrupted and our family life is far from normal and routine.

Which is a good thing right?

We all need a break from our day to day routine.
It's good to shake things up, do things differently & have new experiences (Sydney in January is Festival month - shows, events, exhibitions that provide 4 weeks of non-stop experiences if you so wish! Check out my other blog to get a taste of The Sydney Festival).

However all of these new experiences and breaks from routine have left me very little time for blogging.

I have several half-baked reviews sitting in the wings, waiting to be finalised. I've trolled some of your sites during the quieter moments, but I haven't had the time or inspiration to leave thoughtful comments.

School goes back next week.

We have new uniforms, bags, books, pencil cases, shoes and haircuts!
Routine, everyday life is just around the corner.

And, just quietly, between you and me, I'm ready for it.

I've missed writing and I've missed all of you.

P.S. Please remind me of this sentiment when we're in the middle of HSC hysteria with our eldest later on in the year!

  1. Good luck with the return to normal, Brona! Hopefully you've still been able to squeeze in some good reads?

  2. Oh, MUST you post such pictures when here in Canada we are so cold it numbs the brain? It's like living in the deep freezer of an already cold house!
I look forward to reading your thoughts on The Luminaries since I have the book sitting here weighing down the others on my TBR stack, like something Tolstoyan. The thing is massive. All the best to you in your return to the routine.

    1. I really enjoyed The Luminaries, I'm just having trouble finding the time to write the review right now (which is ridiculous really since I pride myself on brief, succinct reviews!! It shouldn't be that hard.)
I can't imagine being as cold as you guys have been this winter - in Sydney we complain if we have a winter's day below 10°C!!

  3. I can't wait til school goes back, I love them but I'm outnumbered at 4 to 1! As to the HSC, you will survive- my oldest just graduated :)

    1. Thanks for the reassuring words - I suspect Mr Books & I will be more stressed than No. 1 Booklet - whose approach to study and homework is very relaxed!!

  4. Summer in Sydney is lovely, but school holidays all so disruptive. I haven't got around to new uniforms yet, and the boys are away this week, so we'll do the last minute rush next week like everyone else I suspect. Although the shoes are bought and the hair is cut, shorts and shirts aren't so bad. I have lots of half done reviews backed up too. Once the book drops into the more distant past it gets harder and harder to write the post although I always expect that I will. I'm hoping to get some done in the next couple of days actually.

    1. Me too Louise - I have a nice long, long weekend ahead of me. We have a few nice things planned over the next few days (another Syd Festival event tonight, an Australia Day trip into the city to see the old cars, a Mexican BBQ with friends). But mostly just time at home to potter in the garden, finish our holiday jigsaw puzzle, read some books, enjoy the view from our verandah, sleep in etc.
Hope you enjoy your Aust Day w/e too :-)
